Description:

Currently we are looking for a Health Informatics/Health IT professional with Health Level 7 experience for one of our clients based in Edmonton, Alberta. This role involves:

  • Working to minimize risk in healthcare IT solutions by implementing coding and classification standards;
  • Working with the healthcare IT teams as a Subject Matter Expert to design and implement messaging specifications using HL7 messaging in the 2.x series;
  • Working with our healthcare IT teams to design and implement IT solutions using HL7 v.3 standards, specifically the Clinical Document Architecture and Reference Information Model.

Requirements:

  • familiarity with, and experience in, designing and implementing HL7 2.x and 3.0 standards
  • familiarity with managing risk in healthcare IT solutions design through use of coding, classification standards and specifications
  • good understanding of best practices and standards in health informatics
  • ability to assess and evaluate existing protocols, procedures and technologies and make recommendations for maintaining and improving systems and working practices
  • Business analysis and technical analysis skills, including past design of interfacing solutions
  • ability to effectively interact with clients
  • ability to work effectively and efficiently on own initiative
  • excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • demonstrated excellence in client service
  • ability to work flexibly and under pressure, as necessary
  • ability to understand business processes and workflow in a number of diverse client settings
  • proven written communication skills, including the ability to write clear, concise and readily understood reports
  • proven verbal communication skills, including the ability to pose questions, probing and listening skills
  • undergraduate degree in relevant discipline
  • HL7 certification or specific training

    That’s great! And they only ask for an “undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline” and “HL7 certification or specific training”.

    And the HL7 certification is only $175:

    I was surprised to see that there are less than HL7 Certified Specialists in Canada that could be making $70 to $80 per hour (right away):

    WOW! That works out to be $145,600 – $166,400 per year (assuming 40 hour work week). Sadly it’s in Edmonton!
