November 28, 2006: MedFusion Discussion Group: Nanomedicine

Time: 12-1pm
Location: SUB 212
Description: This week, we will be discussing the exciting medical applications of nanotechnology, such as nanoparticle drug delivery, molecular nanotechnology (MNT) and nanovaccinology! You are all welcome to come and share something interesting you have read or heard in local news or learned in class, or just listen to the articles that we will be sharing. Also, feel free to bring your lunch and friends! There will be snacks and drinks for members!

 

November 21, 2006: MedFusion Lecture Series – What is Bioinformatics?

 

Time: 12pm
Location: Michael Smith Laboratories – Room 101
Guest Speaker:
Dr. Joanne Fox
Description: One day, you’ll be able to walk into your doctor’s office with your genome on a chip and ask, “Tell me what I’ve got, doc!”. In her seminar, Dr. Fox will give a personal view of what it’s like being involved in bioinformatics research. She’ll tell you how she got involved in bioinformatics and how you can combine your interests in computers and biology in this cutting edge field of research.

 

November 9, 2006: Bioinformatics Talk

Location: BC Cancer Research Centre
Description: We will be attending this Bioinformatics talk: Building with Bases – Computational Design of RNAs at 6pm at the BC Cancer Research Centre.

November 3, 2006: MedFusion Discussion Group: Electronic Health Records

Time: 12-1pm
Location: SUB 212
Description: The main topic to be discussed will be electronic health records, but we will also be discussing other topics related to the application of current technologies to the health sciences. You are all welcome to come and share something interesting you have read or heard in local news or learned in class, or just listen to the articles that we will be sharing. October 20, 2006: Body Worlds 3 Social Event @ Science World

Time: 5:30pm
Location: Science World
Description: This is our second social event of this term! We will be attending the Body Worlds 3 Exhibition at Science World! Tickets are $15 group rate. It’s going to be a good opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow Medfusion members/execs and learn about the human body.

 

October 12, 2006: Bioinformatics Workshop & Talk

Time: 4pm & 6pm
Location: SUB (Room TBA) & BC Cancer Research Centre
Description: This is our first Bioinformatics event of this term! We will be attending this Bioinformatics talk: Bioinformatics and experimental practice in proteomics at 6pm at the BC Cancer Research Centre.

For those of you that are new to Bioinformatics, we will be holding an Introduction to Bioinformatics workshop at UBC at 4pm. We will then leave together to attend the talk at the BC Cancer Research Centre.
